CoxHealth Selects MEDHOST To Boost Efficiency Across Its Three Emergency Departments And Two Urgent Care Centers

ADDISON, TexasSept. 22, 2009 – MEDHOST, provider of the leading Emergency Department Information System (EDIS), today announced that CoxHealth in Springfield, Mo., chose MEDHOST’s full-suite software to automate its three emergency departments (ED) and two urgent care centers and boost productivity and efficiency. The EDIS will first be deployed at Cox North in late 2009, followed by deployments at Cox South, Cox Monett, CoxHealth Adult Urgent Care and Pediatric Urgent Care in 2010. CoxHealth selected MEDHOST because of its ease of use, ability to integrate with CoxHealth’s Cerner HIS, and its proven safety tools such as medication reconciliation and risk mitigation.

“CoxHealth is committed to enhancing the patient experience through technology investments. By automating each of our EDs with MEDHOST’s robust, paperless system, we can provide our clinicians the infrastructure they need to deliver high quality care more safely and efficiently,” said Cathy Homeyer, administrative director of emergency departments at CoxHealth. “Our clinicians have been very involved and excited about this project since seeing how easy MEDHOST is to use and how well it aligns with their process and workflow needs. Because MEDHOST integrates with our Cerner HIS, we can pre-populate inpatient charts with critical information upon admission, which is a unique attribute that helps us improve patient safety and achieve our continuum of care goals.”

The Cox South ED receives more than 65,000 visits annually, and the other CoxHealth EDs and urgent care centers receive more than 90,000 visits combined. With its patient volumes on the rise, CoxHealth selected MEDHOST to improve processes and deliver new levels of efficiency. MEDHOST’s automatic Charge Capture eliminates extra steps and prevents lost charges by calculating charges as care is documented, and the system’s real-time notifications will help keep ED clinicians and staff better informed about each patient’s status. MEDHOST also removes unnecessary steps and inefficient processes with its bi-directional CPOE module, which enables clinicians to place orders directly into ancillary department systems from the bedside.
