New York EMT Dies Following Ambulance Crash

GARRISON, N.Y.-- A 25-year-old emergency medical technician with Empire State Ambulance died Thursday from injuries he sustained when the ambulance in which he was riding ran off Route 9 in Garrison and struck a tree.

Matthew Lamb was riding in the back of the vehicle at the time of the crash. The driver, a Bronx man, is being treated at Westchester Medical Center.

The crew was returning from a transportation call when the accident occurred on Wednesday.

Lamb's organs were donated and he was declared dead Thursday morning, a spokesman said.

The young man was a member of the Carmel Fire Department and Carmel Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Carmel Fire Chief Daryl Johnson and Ambulance Corps Captain Dave Jacobsen called the passing "extremely tragic."
