School Bush Crashes in Kentucky
News
A bus loaded with middle school students ran off a rural road and sideswiped a utility pole Wednesday morning, critically injuring three youngsters, officials said.
Seventeen students were on board when the bus apparently crossed into traffic, then ran off the road and struck the pole, authorities said. Thirteen students and the bus driver were taken to hospitals after the crash in Grant County, about 50 miles north of Lexington.
Two Grant County Middle School students were taken to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and another was taken to University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, said state police spokeswoman Lisa Rudzinski. All were listed in critical condition.
Police were investigating the cause of the crash, but weather did not appear to be a factor, Kentucky State Police spokesman Shain Stevens said.
The driver's side of the bus had dents and broken windows.
